Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - Congratulations from international organizations and partners of Uztekstilprom Association continue to be received in connection with the Day of Employees of the Textile and Sewing and Knitting Industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The International Labor Organization also paid special attention to this date. In his address, Francesco d’Ovidio, a senior fellow at the ILO Fundamental Principles and Rights Division, who oversees the Third Party Monitoring Project in Uzbekistan, noted the great progress Uzbekistan has made in eliminating child labor and forced labor in the annual cotton harvest.

In particular, the letter says, “I watched with great interest how Uzbekistan succeeds in replacing the state order system for cotton production, with a market model whose goal is to privatize the industry and at the same time position Uzbekistan as a major producer of textile and clothing products. These reforms have the potential to address the risks of forced labor, as well as the simultaneous creation of much-needed full-time employment opportunities with guarantees, including fair hiring practices and adequate wages. ”

Also, Francesco d’Ovidio noted that the Association of Textile and Clothing Industry of Uzbekistan and its members play a key role in addressing employment issues.

Uzbekistan has shown that it deserves the full support of the international community, and the ILO is determined to continue to work closely with the Government of Uzbekistan, employers, trade unions and civil society to expand opportunities for women and men in Uzbekistan to receive decent and productive work, in conditions of freedom, equality, security and human dignity.
