ILO praises Uzbekistan’s youth employment policies
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In New York, Senate Chairman Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva met with ILO New York representative Matthew Kognak and Director of the ILO CIS Office Olga Kulaeva.
ILO representatives noted the high level of cooperation with Uzbekistan, in particular, the significance of the results achieved in recent years on the implementation of labor standards, increasing the potential of employers and workers, and the mechanism of feedback with the population on the prevention of labor violations was emphasized.
It was emphasized that the adoption of the Yoshlar-Kelajagimiz State Program on youth employment in the country, the creation of the Youth - Our Future Fund, and the allocation of state funds to provide soft loans to young people deserve special attention. So, in 2018, with the assistance of the Fund, more than 23 thousand jobs were created. This year, the funding for the program was increased to 300 million US dollars with the expectation that about 62,000 jobs will be created.
With the support of the ILO project “Partnership in the field of youth employment in the CIS countries”, the process of formulating an employment strategy has been initiated, which will also cover the promotion of youth employment.
The involvement of the ILO in such a strategically significant initiative will not only strengthen national capacities, but also expand youth access to the knowledge and experience generated by the ILO at the global level.
The parties expressed their readiness to continue work on the implementation of the Decent Work Agenda, assisting the ILO in the development of a Youth Employment Strategy, implementing informal employment projects, improving labor standards for social protection, ensuring employment and labor protection.
