Illegal Sale of Medicines Prevented in Jizzakh and Samarkand Regions

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Illegal trade in pharmaceutical products has been prevented in the Jizzakh and Samarkand regions.

In Jizzakh, during a joint special operation, officers of the State Security Service (SSS) and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes detained two citizens born in 1993. Evidence was found confirming the sale of 400 Misoprostol tablets, 139 capsules, two bottles of balm, and 26 packaging units worth approximately US$5,000, all without the required documentation.

A search of a women’s fitness club in Jizzakh revealed an underground workshop organized by the detained individuals. The site was used for manual packaging, distribution, and preparation of various medicines for sale.

During the investigation, authorities seized one packaging device, 141 ready-to-sell capsules, 1,040 counterfeit holograms with inscriptions in Chinese and English, 237 fake barcodes, 1,014 empty capsules, as well as various containers and packaging materials.

In a separate operation in Samarkand, SSS officers, together with other law enforcement agencies, detained a manager of a private company born in 1998, who was engaged in retail trade of pharmaceutical products. He attempted to sell 9,800 medicines containing psychotropic substances, smuggled from the Kyrgyz Republic, to an undercover buyer for 25 million soums.

Investigations into both cases are currently ongoing.
