Illegal Electric Fishing Stopped in Bukhara Region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An operational team from the Department of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of Bukhara Region conducted an environmental inspection at the Shorkul Reservoir in the Gijduvan District, the press service of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of Uzbekistan reports.

During the inspection, authorities discovered that two local residents were illegally fishing using electric current. Their actions resulted in the capture of 17 common carp and one Turkestan barbel, a rare species listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan.

The damage to wildlife was estimated at 107.532 million soums.

As physical evidence, 18 fish specimens and a rubber boat were seized. The case materials have been transferred to the relevant authorities, and investigative measures are ongoing.

For reference, a similar case of illegal fishing occurred previously on the Syr Darya River, causing damage to wildlife estimated at 679.4 million soums.

Patrols and preventive measures to combat environmental violations are continuing.
