IFC to Invest in Uzbekistan’s First Aluminum Can Manufacturing Plant

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The International Finance Corporation (IFC) will invest in East Can Solutions to establish Uzbekistan’s first aluminum can manufacturing plant, the IFC press service reported.

The new facility, located in Tashkent, will supply beverage producers with fully recyclable packaging, helping to meet growing domestic demand, expand local supply, and reduce dependence on imports.

Currently, Uzbekistan’s packaging industry is heavily reliant on imports, making manufacturers vulnerable to supply disruptions and price fluctuations. Developing domestic aluminum packaging production is seen as a key step toward strengthening economic resilience and optimizing business operations.

IFC’s investment is expected to create over 200 direct jobs and provide positive environmental benefits. The plant’s production capacity will reach 1.1 billion cans per year. Energy-saving technologies and the use of fully recyclable materials will minimize energy consumption and emissions, supporting the country’s environmental goals.

“Thanks to IFC financing of up to US$18 million and advisory support, we will be able to provide Uzbekistan’s beverage producers with high-quality packaging, enhance industry competitiveness and resilience, and implement advanced international practices,” said Shukhrat Ergashev, founder of East Can Solutions LLC.

“These investments promote the development of the country’s manufacturing base and the adoption of sustainable practices in the packaging sector. Launching domestic aluminum can production will reduce import dependence, encourage competition, and create new jobs, while upskilling the local workforce,” emphasized Lucas Casey, IFC Head for Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services in Central Asia and Turkey.

In addition to financing, IFC will assist East Can Solutions in aligning the company’s environmental and social standards with IFC requirements and international best practices, as well as support the plant’s certification under the EDGE green building standards.
