IAEA Publishes Article on “Roadmap” of Cooperation with Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has published an article on its official website highlighting Uzbekistan’s accession, along with two other countries, to key international conventions in the field of nuclear safety, Dunyo news agency reports.

The publication notes that during the 69th session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Uzbekistan and the Agency signed a “Roadmap” of cooperation outlining joint steps to ensure nuclear safety.

Uzbekistan simultaneously joined three major conventions: the Convention on Early Notification of a Nuclear Accident, the Convention on Assistance in the Case of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency, and the Convention on Nuclear Safety. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi emphasized that this decision was made possible thanks to the personal attention and support of the President of Uzbekistan, who promptly responded to the Agency’s proposal.

According to Grossi, Uzbekistan is actively implementing projects in the field of nuclear energy, including the construction of a large nuclear power plant and small modular reactors, while also advancing major initiatives in the energy sector.

It was also noted that Kyrgyzstan and Bangladesh submitted their accession documents alongside Uzbekistan. Kyrgyzstan joined the Convention on Early Notification of a Nuclear Accident and the Convention on Assistance in the Case of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency, while Bangladesh acceded to the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management.
