Humor and Eastern Cuisine Festivals Delight Visitors in Bukhara
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Bukhara hosted the traditional “Nasreddin Afandi” and “Eastern Cuisine” festivals, timed to coincide with World Laughter Day. The events combined folk traditions, culinary art, and modern cultural formats, attracting both residents and tourists.
The festival opened with a colorful caravan parade led by Nasreddin Afandi, winding from Poi-Kalyan and the Ark Fortress to the Nodir-Divonbegi Madrasa. Streets of the old city filled with national music, performances by folk ensembles, and theatrical shows, creating a lively festive atmosphere.
The opening ceremony took place at the Nasreddin Afandi monument in the courtyard of the Nodir-Divonbegi Madrasa. Botirjon Shokhriyorov, Deputy Khokim of the region, emphasized the festival’s importance for tourism development and the promotion of the region’s cultural heritage.
Nasreddin Afandi’s image has long symbolized folk wisdom, wit, and life experience, conveying important truths through humor and satire.
A central highlight of the celebration was the “Eastern Cuisine” gastronomic festival, showcasing the rich variety of national dishes. At the Gavkushon complex, a culinary skills competition allowed top regional chefs to demonstrate their expertise while serving traditional dishes to guests.
Throughout the day, visitors enjoyed craft exhibitions, concerts, and entertainment performances, creating a true folk festival atmosphere.
These festivals help promote Bukhara’s tourism potential internationally, celebrate national values, and strengthen cultural connections, serving as an important platform for intercultural dialogue and tourism development.
