Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Representatives of the National Human Rights Institutions of Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Serbia, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan attended the working meeting via videoconference.
Participants discussed the upcoming videoconference of the Eurasian Ombudsman Alliance and its themes: human rights in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, the 75th Anniversary of the End of World War II.
Problems of protecting human rights in the context of the pandemic, the role of national institutions in the new realities will be under discussion. The agenda also includes exchange of experience, cooperation between national and civil society institutions to protect veterans and older people’s rights.
Representatives of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan informed their colleagues from different countries about measures taken in the country to protect human rights in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Measures taken by the Government of Uzbekistan to combat the spread of the coronavirus and reduce the inevitable consequences of its impact on human rights, especially children, women, migrants and prisoners, which are strictly necessary, but at the same time effective and proportionate to the threat, were discussed at the meeting.
Participants noted that effectiveness of anti-crisis measures taken by the states largely depends on the exchange of reliable information on a regular basis, as well as the experience of participation of national human rights institutions in countering COVID-19.
