Human rights in Uzbekistan and Korea discussed in Tashkent
Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and National Center for human rights of Uzbekistan organized the event.
It was attended by representatives of the Legislative Chamber and Senate of Oliy Majlis, judicial and law enforcement bodies, civil society institutes, diplomatic corps and international organizations.
During the roundtable, the sides exchanged opinion in improving legal culture and knowledge of population, mechanisms of public control by civil society institutes in ensuring legal operation of law enforcement bodies. During independence years, Uzbekistan created legal framework on protection of human rights based on international principles and norms. Uzbekistan created national mechanism of human rights protection.
The roundtable participants said that legality is one of main requirements of civil society, effective functioning of political and legal system. It was underlined that Human rights commissionaire (Ombudsman) play a key role in protection of human rights.
Representatives of National commission on human rights of the Republic of Korea briefed the participants on national experience of protection of human rights and freedoms in South Korea. It was noted that it is necessity to develop national human rights institutes, as well as improve their influence and legislative framework for their operation.
The event was concluded with a ceremony of signing of memorandum on understanding between National Center for Human Rights of Uzbekistan and National Commission on human rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
