High-Capacity Cogeneration Plant Launched in Tashkent for Uninterrupted Heating
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the operation of a new 100 MW cogeneration plant in the Yunusabad district of Tashkent.
The project, implemented as a public-private partnership in cooperation with the Chinese company CNTIC, required an investment of US$65 million and occupies 3.5 hectares on the site of Heat and Power Plant No. 4.
The plant is equipped with 70 gas-piston units from the British company Rolls-Royce, enabling the simultaneous generation of heat and electricity. Thanks to the reconstruction of heat mains and the replacement of networks with insulated pipes, the plant is expected to produce 876 million kWh of electricity and 858,000 gigacalories of heat annually, saving 35 million cubic meters of natural gas.
The new capacity will ensure uninterrupted heat supply to 1,846 facilities across five districts of the capital, including 1,400 residential buildings and social infrastructure, as well as stable electricity supply to 292,000 apartments.
The cost of heat production is expected to decrease by 40–45%, emissions of pollutants will be significantly reduced, and there will be no need for wastewater disposal.
During the visit, the President also reviewed preparations for the winter season, the modernization of heating plants and Tashkent CHP, the city’s urban maintenance system, and the readiness of management companies servicing 11,630 apartment buildings. Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that service companies must operate reliably and focus on residents’ needs, and directed energy and utilities managers to ensure coordinated operations throughout the winter season.
