Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Heads of diplomatic missions of member countries of the Turkic Council (CCTG) accredited to the United States held online consultations to discuss the results of the extraordinary summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking states on 10 April, Dunyo reports.
The meeting was attended by Secretary General of the Turkic Council Baghdad Amreev, Azerbaijani Ambassador Elin Suleymanov, Turkish Ambassador Serder Kilich, Kazakh Ambassador Yerjan Kazykhanov, Kyrgyz Ambassador Bolot Otunbayev, Uzbek Ambassador Javlon Vakhabov, and the head of the diplomatic mission of Turkmenistan Meret Orazov.
It was noted at the event that the extraordinary Summit of the CCTS became the first online platform in the world on which the issue of countering COVID-19 was discussed at the level of heads of state.
The online consultation provided detailed information on measures taken in Uzbekistan to combat the coronavirus and mitigate the economic consequences of the pandemic. Particular attention was paid to the speedy implementation of the initiatives voiced by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on establishing and expanding the partnership of the Turkic Council with the World Health Organization, creating an epidemiological monitoring system, conducting online consultations between ministries of health with the participation of epidemiologists and other experts to exchange experience and research results, and to form pandemic coordination group and separate database, as well as the establishment of work her group, led by the heads of the Ministries of Transport to address the issues related to ensuring the uninterrupted supply of goods and cargo.
During the consultations, the Secretary General of the CCTS informed about the priorities of the current agenda of the Organization and the efforts of the Secretariat to implement the initiatives voiced by the heads of state at an extraordinary summit.
An exchange of views took place on interaction measures to mitigate the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic for socio-economic development, the creation of epidemiological monitoring mechanisms, the exchange of data and results of medical research, as well as the uninterrupted supply of goods and goods, especially food, through international corridors.
Mr. Amreev emphasized that the full membership of Uzbekistan in the Turkic Council and the opening of the organization’s European office in Budapest marked the completion of the first ten-year phase of the Organization’s formation and laid the foundation for its expansion and deeper integration.
“The proposal of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to establish partnerships between WHO and the Turkic Council was very important and timely,” the head of the Organization said.
He said that in order to implement this initiative, WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus was invited to sign the corresponding Memorandum of Cooperation between the two organizations. In addition, videoconferences of ministers of health and transport, as well as heads of migration services of member states of the Turkic Council are organized to discuss ways to implement the tasks outlined by the heads of state during the Extraordinary Summit.
Following an online meeting, an agreement was reached on organizing a visit by Secretary General of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States Baghdad Amreev to the United States as the epidemiological situation in the world normalizes.
