Hashish Smuggling Foiled in Surkhandarya Disguised as Potatoes

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Authorities in the Termez district of Surkhandarya Region intercepted an attempt to smuggle narcotics disguised as agricultural products.

A MAN truck driven by a 2001-born citizen arriving from Afghanistan at the “Termez — Automotive” international checkpoint was inspected by the Border Troops of the State Security Service and customs authorities.

Initial inspection showed the truck carried potatoes. However, during a more thorough search, 222 potato-shaped replicas were discovered, each containing the narcotic substance hashish.

The total weight of the seized drugs was 72.3 kilograms.

The confiscated substance has been formally processed according to legal procedures. Preliminary reports indicate that this large shipment was intended for illegal export to the Russian Federation.

Investigative actions are currently underway regarding the incident.
