Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 21 July, at the regular Consultative Meeting of the Heads of States of Central Asia in the Kyrgyz city of Cholpon-Ata, the Presidents of five countries of the region discussed a number of important issues aimed at building close cooperation on important and topical issues on the regional agenda.
A significant event of the event was the adoption by the Leaders of the five countries of the regional program "Green Agenda" for Central Asia, the initiative of which was put forward by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the third Consultative meeting in 2021 in Turkmen Avaza.
In order to successfully implement this program, the Head of Uzbekistan made a proposal to develop a Plan of specific activities, which include issues related to the fulfillment by the countries of the Central Asian region of international on the decarbonization of economies, the development of renewable energy sources, the introduction of water-saving and environmentally friendly technologies, as well as the rational use of water resources.
The measures proposed by the leader of our country are extremely relevant for the states of the region, given the growing negative situation associated with the growing consequences of climate change and their impact on the population and economies of the Central Asian countries.
Consistent implementation of this document is intended not only to strengthen regional cooperation in the areas that are most in demand and acute for countries, but also jointly resist the processes of climate change, combat desertification, efficiently use water and energy resources, protect the environment, and promote projects and programs related to the introduction of resource-saving and green technologies.
The implementation of the Green Agenda for Central Asia program will certainly become a logical continuation of the chain of important decisions made earlier, the main goal of which is to ensure the sustainable development of the entire region.
In particular, the event will give a new impetus to the activities of the UN Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Human Security for the Aral Sea region in Uzbekistan, the creation of which was announced during the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in 2018, will ensure the implementation of the resolution of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly on declaring the Aral Sea region "a zone of environmental innovation and technology."
In modern conditions, no one doubts the need to take decisive practical measures to prevent processes that threaten the ecological well-being of the region. The agreements reached within the framework of the Fourth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the decisions made open up new opportunities for pooling efforts and joint actions.
Today, the countries of Central Asia demonstrate high interest and unanimity in a wide range of areas. The practical work initiated in recent years in the five-sided format already shows that joining efforts and close interaction brings more benefits than working alone. Undoubtedly, the Green Agenda program will contribute to the well-being of the region and will serve the interests of all states and peoples of Central Asia.
