Governor of Naryn District Moves into Container Home Following Presidential Directive
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The governor (hokim) of Naryn District in Namangan Region, Jurabek Nurmatov, has moved into a container home installed in the Shurarik neighborhood, which was renamed “New Namangan” following a recent visit by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
According to the regional administration’s press service, the relocation aims to accelerate local transformations, address emerging issues promptly, and turn the neighborhood into a well-organized area. The initiative is overseen by the regional headquarters led by the Namangan Region governor, Shavkatjon Abdurazzakov. During a meeting with residents and elders, plans were presented to modernize “New Namangan,” including the creation of an industrial zone on vacant plots and the development of infrastructure.
A master plan is being prepared for the accelerated development of the neighborhood and six adjacent areas.
On 16 September, President Mirziyoyev visited Shurarik and criticized the state of its infrastructure. He instructed the district hokim to move into the neighborhood building so he could “spend nights there and see the problems firsthand.” The president also announced the allocation of 10 billion soums for the area’s improvement, including the creation of recreational zones, better conditions for children’s education, healthcare, and school infrastructure.
The presidential press service reported that a decree is being prepared to strengthen grassroots work across the country. In total, 5 trillion soums are planned from the budget for the renovation of districts and neighborhoods. In particular, Kasansay and Naryn districts of Namangan Region will receive 100 billion soums each, while in each other district, the two most problematic neighborhoods will receive 5 billion soums each.
This practice was previously applied in 2021, when governors were temporarily relocated to containers in problem neighborhoods. At that time, President Mirziyoyev described the condition of some areas as a “betrayal of presidential policy” and suggested that regional leaders and prosecutors move into the neighborhoods to personally assess and address issues.
Among those who implemented the measure were Namangan Region governor Shavkatjon Abdurazzakov and Bukhara Region governor Botir Zaripov.
