Governor of Ferghana Discusses Development of Interregional Cooperation with South Korean Ambassador
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Governor of Ferghana Region, Khayrullo Bozorov, held a meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Uzbekistan, Won Do-yeon.
During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for further development of interregional cooperation in the fields of economy, investment, education, vocational training, and migration.
The Governor emphasized that in recent years, relations between Uzbekistan and South Korea have reached the level of a special strategic partnership, with trustful and friendly interaction yielding tangible results, including in interregional collaboration.
He expressed confidence that the election of the new President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae Myung, in June of this year will open new opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the countries.
It was noted that interest from Korean investors in Ferghana Region has significantly increased, interregional partnerships are developing, and work on new projects continues. A delegation from the region is scheduled to visit the city of Ulsan in the near future, where meetings with leaders of major companies will be held and important agreements reached to further expand cooperation.
Ambassador Won Do-yeon emphasized that bilateral relations have reached a new level, with cooperation with Ferghana Region becoming particularly active. He positively assessed the work of KOICA and the Ferghana Center for Skilled Workforce Training in collaboration with the city of Ulsan, highlighting the importance of projects in the field of safe and guaranteed migration.
The discussion also covered improving Korean language proficiency as a key requirement for employment in major Korean companies, and the potential to establish Korean language courses in every district. The work of the International Korean University, student achievements, and opportunities for study and employment under the “3+1” program in the Republic of Korea were also reviewed.
Following the meeting, joint initiatives based on the proposals discussed were agreed upon. For reference, 48 enterprises with South Korean capital currently operate in Ferghana Region.
