GM Uzbekistan to launch production of two new car models

On 1 June 2017, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution “On measures on further improving management and accelerated development of the automotive industry for 2017-2021”.

With his resolution, the Uzbek President approve the programme on development of automobile industry in Uzbekistan for 2017-2021. The programme includes a list of investment projects, which will be implemented in the industry.

According to the decree, GM Uzbekistan will implement the first project in 2018-2020 to develop the serial production of a new passenger car. The cost of the project is US$143.8 million, of which US$60.5 million will be foreign investments and loans. The capacity of the production line will be 46,000 cars a year.

The second project worth US$130.8 million will be implemented in 2019-2021. The project will create capacities for production of 43,000 new cars a year.

The resolution did not mention, which models of cars will be produced by GM Uzbekistan.
