German and Swiss media on the results of political and economic reforms in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - An article titled "Uzbekistan, opened by tourists and investors under the leadership of President Mirziyoyev”, has been published on the site of the popular German radio station Deutschlandfunk, Dunyo reported.

The author of the article Sabine Stör, talking about the results of large-scale reforms in the republic, writes that the Germans can now also enter Uzbekistan without a visa. With the advent of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the most populous country in Central Asia is opening up to the world at an amazingly fast pace. Along with this, the President of Uzbekistan intends to attract as many tourists and international companies to the country as possible. In this regard, he simplified the tax system, gives more freedom for the development of private business.

“Thus, more and more startups are being created in Uzbekistan. Although legal security and an independent judiciary are still under development, nonetheless, foreign investors, including from Germany, are already lining up in the same way as tourists. Since the beginning of 2019, tourists from more than 50 countries are allowed to travel to Uzbekistan without a visa. This rule also applies to German citizens who can stay in the country for up to 30 days,” she writes.

The situation in the country has improved in terms of respect for human rights, the author further notes. With reference to reports of international human rights organizations, she states that in Uzbekistan, human rights defenders are provided with access to official meetings and are allowed to discuss working conditions in cotton fields. According to the Decree of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, torture is prohibited in Uzbekistan when conducting criminal investigations.

In a material published in the Swiss newspapers Aargauer Zeitung and Luzerner Zeitung, the popular British magazine The Economist named Uzbekistan the country of the year that achieved the greatest success in 2019.

“Political observers at The Economist unanimously noted that not a single country developed in 2019 as positively as Uzbekistan. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev initiated and began to implement far-reaching reforms,” writes the material author Zaza Razich.

In particular, the efforts of the leadership of Uzbekistan to combat forced and child labor, corruption, as well as the results of reforms in the judicial sphere and measures to ensure freedom of speech in the country are positively evaluated.

“In a word, Shavkat Mirziyoyev wants to raise the international image of Uzbekistan and turn it into a leading country in the region,” the author concludes.
