Geographical Indication “Samarkand Raisins” Officially Registered in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The geographical indication “Samarkand Raisins” has been officially entered into the state registry, formally recognizing the product’s unique origin.

In addition, the trademark “Kushrabat Raisins” has been registered, meaning that raisins from Kushrabat will now be marketed under this brand. During the raisin festival in Kushrabat, Minister of Justice Akbar Toshkulov handed over the relevant documents to local authorities.

The registration was carried out with the support of the Main Department of Justice of Samarkand Region and the State Institution “Intellectual Property Center.”

The region’s unique climate and fertile soils are particularly significant, creating ideal conditions for grape cultivation.

Samarkand raisins are highly valued not only in the domestic market but also abroad. The prolonged hot summers, low humidity, high quality of table grape varieties, and traditional sun- and shade-drying methods allow the production of high-quality raisins with minimal costs.

Previously, other products entered into the state registry of geographical indications included “Samarkand Bread,” “Samarkand Chickpea Soup,” and “Samarkand Paper.”
