General plan of Khiva till 2030 approved

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 15 May 2013, the Government of Uzbekistan approved a general plan of Khiva city for the period till 2030.

The Government of Uzbekistan approved the general plan of Khiva city, which is directed at improving quality and level of town-planning.

The plan envisages development of administrative-economic, cultural and industrial center of Khiva district of Khorezm region.

According to the general plan, population of Khiva will reach 65,000 people by the end of 2015 and 95,000 by the end of 2030.

At the same time, the city territory will expand from 830 hectares in 2008 to 2,319 hectares by the end of 2015 and 3,408 hectares by the end of 2030.

Residential areas within the city will rose from 660 hectares in 2008 to 2,663.44 hectares by the end of 2030.

Within the city plan, it is planned to increase housing resources from 787,900 square meters in 2008 to 1.885 million square meters by the end of 2030 (1.17 million square meters in 2015).

It is expected that number of places at kindergartens will grow from 2,135 places in 2008 to 9,690 places in 2030, secondary education establishment – from 10,925 to 19,950 places and hospitals – from 520 to 1,250 beds

The document said that areas of shops will grow to 29,965 square meters in the end of 2030 against 16,225 square meters in 2008. The capacity of hotels will reach 1,425 places meters in the end of 2030 against 668 places in 2008.

The length of streets and roads will increase from 34.2 km in 2008 to 100.95 km in the end of 2030.

The plan also envisages improvement of water, energy and heating supply to population and enterprises. It is planned to construct additional water reservoir for 3,000 cubic meters and modernize water supply system.

The capacity of sewage disposal will rose up to 20,000 cubic meters a year by the end of 2030. It is expected that the electricity consumption will reach 132.7 million KWH a year by the end of 2030 and it is planned to improve electricity supply system.

The document envisages also development of residential and industrial zones. It is planned to construct stadium, new enterprises and buildings.

The plan also stipulates measures on improving environment in the city and creation of green zones.
