Gayane Umerova Speaks at Art Basel Qatar Discussion on New Cultural Platforms
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Gayane Umerova, Chairperson of the Uzbekistan Fund for the Development of Culture and Arts, participated in the discussion program Art Basel Conversations during the inaugural edition of Art Basel Qatar. She spoke on the panel titled “Rubaiya, Bukhara, and Jaou: New Platforms, New Opportunities”, which focused on contemporary biennale formats and the development of cultural platforms.
The discussion also included Sheikha Alanoud Al Thani, Director of the Rubaiya Qatar Foundation, and Lina Lazaar, founder of Jaou Tunis Biennale and Vice President of the Kamel Lazaar Foundation. The panel was moderated by Amir Berbic, Dean of the School of Arts at the Commonwealth University in Qatar.
During the discussion, the Bukhara Biennale was presented as a sustainable institutional model, built on long-term development, engagement with local contexts, and integration into the international cultural agenda.
It was highlighted that the project forms part of the Fund’s broader ecosystem aimed at strengthening contemporary cultural institutions and expanding international collaboration.
