Gayane Umerova Meets New UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Samarkand, GayaneUmerova, Chairperson of the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan, held a meeting with the newly elected Director-General of UNESCO, Khaled El-Enany.
During the discussion, both sides highlighted Uzbekistan’s significant achievements in cooperation with the organization, including participation in the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, accession to the International Research Centre for the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property, the establishment of the Abu Raykhan Beruni International Prize for research in AI ethics, the creation of a Regional Centre for Early Childhood Education under UNESCO, and the work of the International Advisory Committee on Uzbekistan’s Cultural Heritage.
Special attention was given to the inclusion of Uzbek cities in UNESCO global networks and the inscription of cultural sites and elements on international heritage lists.
The parties emphasized the importance of further strengthening cooperation across all areas of UNESCO’s mandate — education, science, culture, and information — and of working together to implement the initiatives of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, announced at the 43rd session of UNESCO’s General Conference.
