Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The gas blowout at the “Muynak” field in Karakalpakstan has been completely eliminated one month after it began, the press service of Uzbekneftegaz reported on 26 August.

A round-the-clock operational headquarters was established to address the emergency, comprising specialists from the militarized unit for the prevention and elimination of open oil and gas blowouts, staff of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, regional divisions of relevant agencies, as well as representatives of the local administration.

The headquarters developed a step-by-step “roadmap” for eliminating the blowout, engaging international experts and specialized equipment. The well was successfully contained without any casualties or losses.

"For their dedicated efforts under challenging conditions at the fire site, 200 workers were awarded letters of appreciation and commemorative gifts," the company noted.

The Ministry of Energy had earlier reported that the blowout was detected on 26 July during the drilling of the first exploration well at the “Muynak” field, operated by Uzbekneftegaz.

The well was located far from residential areas, and the gas consisted of pure methane with no hydrogen sulfide content.
