Freedom House: Uzbekistan scores 12 points in freedom ranking
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has received 12 out of 100 points in the Freedom in the World ranking compiled by Freedom House, placing third among Central Asian countries.
According to Freedom House’s methodology, Uzbekistan is still classified as a "Not Free" country, but its position in the ranking has been gradually improving. In 2020, the country scored 10 points, while in 2017, it had only three.
Freedom House analysts rated Uzbekistan’s political rights at two points and civil liberties at ten.
Among Central Asian nations, Uzbekistan outperformed Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, which scored five and one point, respectively. Kazakhstan was rated 23 points, while Kyrgyzstan, the most free country in the region, scored 26 points, though this was a decline from 39 in 2020.
Globally, Finland, Norway, New Zealand, and Sweden were ranked as the freest countries in 2025. The United States scored 84 points, while Russia, like Uzbekistan, received 12 points.
