Former employees of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan and their accomplices sentenced

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, on 27 September 2019, the Military Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan announced a guilty verdict against the former chairman of the State Security Service (SSB) of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ikhtiyor Abdullayev and members of his criminal community.

At a court session that went on closed for more than two months, the defendants were questioned, the testimonies of more than three hundred victims and witnesses were heard and examined, the evidence collected by the preliminary investigation body was examined, and the defendants’ arguments were thoroughly checked.

As a result, by a court verdict, Ihtiyor Abdullaev was found guilty of organizing a criminal community, receiving bribes, entering into transactions contrary to the interests of the Republic of Uzbekistan, extortion, theft of other people’s property, violation of customs legislation on an especially large scale, in the interests of an organized group and criminal community, and a number of other criminal punishable acts, by abuse of power, for which, in the aggregate of crimes, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Former deputy chairman of the State Security Service Jakhangir Igamov was jailed for 16 years, former adviser to the chairman of the State Security Service Alisher Ishanhodjaev - 17 years, former deputy prosecutor of Tashkent Yorkin Abdullaev – 14 years, former deputy head of the Human Resources Department of the Ministry of Justice Yusufay Khodjaev – 8 years, former Deputy Prosecutor General Gairat Khidoyatov - 5 years, former Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Bahadir Dekhkanov - 5 years, former Prosecutor of Namangan Region Ulugbek Toshev - 5 years of imprisonment, with deprivation of the right to hold official and materially responsible positions for certain periods.

The remaining 15 defendants were also sentenced to take into account the gravity and social danger of their acts, as well as their role in the crimes committed.

In addition, the court took appropriate measures aimed at repaying material damage caused by the defendants, both to the state interests and to the interests of legal entities and individuals.
