Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan denies any diplomatic scandal in Russia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In connection with the dissemination in some online media of information about an employee of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Yekaterinburg, who allegedly "urged compatriots not to celebrate Victory Day" and "provoked a diplomatic scandal," the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan reported the following.

Diplomats of the Consulate General did not speak and did not urge representatives of the Uzbek diaspora to abandon the celebration of Victory Day over fascism.

In order to clarify the issue, the Consulate General of Uzbekistan contacted the Representation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in Yekaterinburg, which reported that there could be no question of any diplomatic scandal.

It is important to note that the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory in World War II is our common holiday, which we remember with joy and with tears in our eyes. These days, we first bow our heads to the blessed memory of all the fighters who gave their lives for their homeland, express unlimited gratitude to our fathers and grandfathers, as well as to the participants in the labor front, perseverance and courage of our mothers and grandmothers.

On the eve of May 9, Presidents of Uzbekistan Sh. Mirziyoyev and Russia V. Putin exchanged congratulations and warm wishes to the peoples of the two countries. Moreover, the Head of our state took part in the opening ceremony of the Victory Park and the Museum of Glory in Tashkent, where the memory of the participants who contributed to the Great Victory in World War II is immortalized.

The Consulate General of Uzbekistan once again draws attention to the groundlessness and inconsistency of allegations of attempts by Uzbek diplomats to urge representatives of the diaspora not to celebrate Victory in World War II, when celebrations dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory were held in Uzbekistan, despite strict quarantine measures with a pandemic.
