Foreign Ministers of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan held talks

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 12 January 2019, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Salahiddin Rabbani in Samarkand, who arrived in Uzbekistan at the head of a representative delegation to participate in the first ministerial meeting Dialogue "India - Central Asia".

According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, in the conversation the parties highly appreciated the positive dynamics in the development of bilateral relations in all areas of cooperation. As it was stressed, the basis of the multi-faceted Uzbek-Afghan dialogue is the strong political will of the leaders of the two countries.

The Afghan Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to the leadership of Uzbekistan for consistent support of the efforts of the Afghan government to establish peace in the country, as well as strengthening bilateral relations and assistance in socio-economic development through the implementation of significant infrastructure projects and training.

The ministers reaffirmed their mutual interest in increasing interaction between countries in the political, trade, economic, investment, transport and communications, energy, cultural, humanitarian and other fields.

The parties exchanged views on the agenda of the beginning of the work of the ministerial meeting of the Dialogue "India-Central Asia", to which the Afghan delegation was invited.

As it was emphasized, the involvement of Afghanistan in regional economic, transport and other infrastructure projects will allow the Afghan people to feel the reality of a peaceful alternative to a multi-year armed conflict.

At the meeting, the ministers also considered selected issues of international and regional issues.

Ambassador of Afghanistan Syed Shahabuddin Timuri attended the meeting.
