The Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan discussed pressing issues of cooperation in the Central Asian region, including within the framework of international and regional organizations, and exchanged views on ways of constructively addressing existing issues.
Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov briefed his colleagues on main provisions of the speech of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly on 19 September. Particular attention was paid to concrete initiatives of the head of Uzbekistan, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the Central Asian countries.
The parties supported the initiative of Uzbekistan to hold a high-level international conference “Central Asia: One Past and a Common Future, Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Prosperity” in Samarkand in November 2017.
It was noted that the conference will promote development of joint solutions to regional issues on the basis of constructive dialogue, principles of equality, mutual benefit, respect and consideration of each other’s interests.
The participants of the meeting confirmed their interest in the joint efforts of Central Asia to become a region of stability, sustainable development and good-neighborliness, and mutual usefulness of such five-sided regular meetings at various levels.
