Following the Kashkadarya Forum, agreements worth US$300 million signed
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In the city of Shakhrisabz, Kashkadarya region, the international investment forum Kashkadarya Investment Forum ended.
It was organized by the khokimiyat of Kashkadarya region in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade and Investment of Uzbekistan. This event completed the cycle of 6 investment forums held during this year, called the year of “active investment and social development” in each region of the region.
During the event, more than 10 agreements worth US$300 million were signed, the first agro-village, the free economic zone of the Chirakchinsk SEZ and much more were presented.
On the first day of the event, on 27 September, a briefing was held for media representatives, during which it was noted the importance of familiarizing foreign companies with the economic, social and tourism potential of the region, the possibility of implementing new projects with the involvement of foreign investors in the region.
According to Oybek Shagazatov, the region’s deputy governor for investment projects, in 2018 the total foreign trade turnover of Kashkadarya region made up US$765 million, which exceeded the annual figures of 2017 by 30%. This year, it is expected to conclude agreements with investors in the total amount of US$300 million.
On the same day, an agreement was reached with companies in Poland and South Korea on meat processing and export of pomegranates. Along with this, a memorandum was signed with the mayors of two cities - Shahrisabz and Caserta (Italy) on the establishment of friendly relations and on strengthening cooperation in various fields. In addition, an agreement was reached on the construction of a new hotel "Starry Sky", located next to the Maidanak Observatory in the Kamash region. It is reported that the hotel will accommodate about 100 guests, and its construction is estimated at US$6.5 million. Also during its construction 64 jobs will be created.
On the second day of the event, a forum was held at the Palace of Culture, which was attended by more than 150 companies from the UK, Germany, Russia, Italy, Turkey, India, Korea and several other countries with high economic potential.
During the event, the guests were shown a video showing the historical heritage and potential of the Kashkadarya region. During the forum, more than 10 memorandums were signed with well-known companies, including Rustekhnobusiness (Russia), European Development Bank (Great Britain), Philips (Netherlands), ST Monolit (Russia), China Energy Co., Ltd (China), DB Schenker (Germany) and many others.
In the afternoon, a B2B meeting took place, at which representatives of various companies and management bodies were able to meet and learn more about each other's projects.
On the same day, at one of the main squares of the city, an exposition with mock-ups of architectural attractions, the opening of an Uzbek-Turkish joint venture, which will manufacture components for mills, was presented, as well as a free economic zone - the Chirakchinskaya Free Economic Zone. In addition, an exhibition of crafts was held in the city and the first agricultural village in the village of Varganza, which is famous for growing a unique type of pomegranate, was inaugurated.
