Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Five members of Uzbekistan’s national boxing team have advanced to the finals of the World Boxing Championship in Liverpool.
Navbakhor Khamidova secured her spot in the final after a hard-fought 3:2 victory over Taiwan’s Chen Nien-Chen. She will face Kazakhstan’s Aida Abikeeva in the championship bout on September 14.
Abdumalik Khalokov also advanced to the final. His semifinal match was stopped in the second round due to an eye injury, but Khalokov had full control of the fight at the time. The judges awarded him a 5:0 victory. This marks Khalokov’s third final at the World Championships at the senior level.
Fazliddin Erkinboev, competing in the 75 kg category, defeated Azerbaijan’s Saidjamshid Jafarov 4:1 and will face a Bulgarian boxer in the final.
Turabek Khabibullaev, in the 90 kg category, overcame Spain’s Enmanuel Resa Plana with a 4:1 victory to secure his spot in the final.
In the over 90 kg category, Jahongir Zokirov convincingly defeated China’s Danabieke Bayikewuzi with a unanimous 5:0 decision.
