First Sunday of August declared as Day of Railway Workers

On 2 August, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree “On celebrating the Day of Railway Workers of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.

This decision was adopted to consolidate and further develop the progress achieved in recent years in the area of increasing the volume of passenger and freight transportation by rail, comprehensive improvement of the railway infrastructure, and provision of comprehensive and effective support to industry workers.

The document noted that during independence years, Uzbekistan directed investments for US$7.5 billion to develop railway transport communications and related infrastructure, including foreign investments – US$2.4 billion.
