First stage of modern combined-cycle gas turbine unit at Navoi TPP launched

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 29 December 2018, the so-called “first ignition” of the Gas Turbine at PGU-2 was successfully carried out as part of the project “Expansion of Navoi Thermal Power Plant with the construction of a second combined-cycle plant with a capacity of 450 MW”.

This is an important stage in implementation of the project, indicating readiness for commissioning in a simple cycle of a fully equipped combined-cycle plant. The combined-cycle plant at the Navoi TPP can be operated in a simple cycle, which generates electricity using a gas turbine (without using a steam turbine), generating 312.1 MW of electricity in a simple cycle mode to supply electricity for the needs of the economy.

The construction of the facility for launching a combined-cycle power plant generating 450 MW of electricity is scheduled for January 2020, and this will be one of the most highly efficient power plants in the Central Asian region.

The CCGT station with a simple operating cycle at the Navoi TPP is a specially designed project that is unique to the region with an annual output of 2.26 billion kWh of electricity almost a year before putting the combined cycle facility into commercial operation. The project demonstrates a modern approach using advanced methods and technologies.

The project of the combined cycle gas turbine unit Navoi-2 is co-financed by the credit lines of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the Fund for Reconstruction and Development and the own funds of Uzbekenergo.

General construction contractor - Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd.
