First 500 kV Outdoor Switchgear in the Region Under Construction at Navoi Thermal Power Plant
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Construction has begun at the Navoi Thermal Power Plant on a large-scale 500 kV outdoor switchgear, the first facility of its kind in the region, according to the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.
The project is part of the investment program for the construction of the plant’s third combined-cycle gas and steam unit.
The new switchgear will play a key role in transmitting high-voltage electricity and ensuring the stability of the entire energy system. Construction is progressing at an accelerated pace.
The project aligns with Uzbekistan’s broad energy modernization program, which includes the simultaneous construction of several modern, energy-efficient thermal power plants capable of generating larger volumes of electricity with lower fuel consumption.
This development is particularly timely amid growing demand—this year, due to economic growth and the expansion of industrial production, an additional 1 billion kWh of electricity is expected to be required.
