Fifth Session of the Uzbek-German Joint Commission Held in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 28 October 2025, the fifth session of the Uzbek-German Joint Commission took place in Tashkent.

Representing Uzbekistan were officials from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, the Academy of Sciences, and relevant departments of the Ministry of Culture. The German delegation was led by Stefan Rossel, Deputy Director of the Department of Social and Cultural Cooperation at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.

The meeting focused on prospects for bilateral cooperation in culture, humanitarian initiatives, education, and science, as well as ongoing projects and new joint initiatives. The parties exchanged views on expanding university partnerships, implementing a dual vocational education model based on German experience, organizing joint scientific research, and conducting archaeological expeditions.

Uzbek-German cultural and humanitarian relations have developed over many years. The Cultural Cooperation Agreement between the governments of Uzbekistan and Germany, signed on 28 April 1993, remains a solid legal foundation for bilateral ties.

Today, cooperation spans science, education, culture, arts, sports, architecture, and archaeology. Among European languages studied in Uzbekistan, German holds a leading position, supported by the activities of DAAD and the Goethe-Institut.

Currently, more than 80 joint projects are being implemented between Uzbek and German universities and research institutions. In particular, in cooperation with Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, work is underway to establish the Uzbek-German University, which will become the first German higher education institution in the country.

Following the negotiations, both sides reaffirmed their interest in further deepening cultural and humanitarian cooperation and expressed readiness to support joint initiatives. The session concluded with the signing of the protocol of the fifth session of the Uzbek-German Joint Commission on Cultural Cooperation.

During the visit, the head of the German delegation will also participate in events of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand.
