Ferghana region discusses prospects for expanding trade and investment cooperation with the Baltic states

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Representatives of the Ferghana regional khokimiyat and regional administrations, with the assistance of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Riga, held online negotiations with potential investors and partners from Latvia, Dunyo reported.

The Latvian side was acquainted with the progress of large-scale reforms covering all spheres of state and public life, liberalization of the economy, the creation of favorable conditions for foreign investors, and the country's export potential.

It was emphasized that recently, importance has been attached to establishing mutually beneficial ties and developing partnerships between the regions of Uzbekistan and foreign countries. In particular, the Ferghana region successfully cooperates with the Latvian business community, implementing joint projects in the food and agricultural sectors.

In turn, the President of the Latvian Higher School of Management of Information Systems (ISMA) R. Deacon, noting the successful functioning of the branch of this higher educational institution in Ferghana, confirmed his commitment to further improve the activities of the institution.

During the negotiations, the director of the MIRKO joint venture N.Kholtodjiev acquainted the participants with the progress in implementing the investment project to create a milk processing enterprise in the Ferghana region.

Heads of Mirolita M. Kondratovich and Alltime E. Yankilaitis focused on the possibility of implementing joint projects in the mining industry and the production of building materials. The interest in importing products from Uzbekistan, including the Ferghana region, to the Baltic countries was emphasized.

Regional Coordinator GLOBAL G.A.P. in Central Asia, Latvia and Russia, E. Strazdynia noted the importance of introducing internationally recognized standards in the republic, as well as remote support for local producers during a pandemic, online certification and audit.

As a result of the event, an agreement was reached on organizing negotiations with Ferghana exporters in the mode of video communication and exchange of views on the prospects for promoting Uzbek goods to the European market
