Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sodik Safoev took part in the 11th meeting of the International Academic Advisory Committee of the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies (OCIS), which was held on 23 September in the British city of Oxford.

During the event, the results of the activities of the OCIS over the past year, priority areas of scientific research and plans for the development of international academic cooperation were discussed.

Participants emphasized the need to develop interdisciplinary research on the history of Islam and modern trends in the Islamic world. It is noted that research should help strengthen the position of enlightened Islam, deepen the inter-civilizational dialogue and modernize Muslim societies.

In this context, they highly appreciated the policy of the leadership of Uzbekistan to support the study, preservation and popularization of the heritage of the great Islamic scholars who have made an invaluable contribution to the development of world civilization, as well as bringing to the international community the truly humanistic essence of our religion, calling for peace, goodness, tolerance and enlightenment.

The Director of the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies, Farhan Nizami, and other participants expressed their willingness to assist Uzbekistan in cataloging and publishing the works of al-Bukhari, al-Termizi, Beruni, Ibn Sino and other great thinkers of the Islamic world, holding international conferences and symposia dedicated to their research .

It is worth noting that the OCIS, established in 1985, is one of the most respected scientific centers in the world supporting research works in the field of art, humanities and social sciences focused on Islam. The patron of the Center is the heir to the British throne, Prince Charles of Wales.

As a sign of high respect for our ancestor scientists, the OCI established scholarships named after Imam al-Bukhari and Imam al-Termizi, which allow experts from Uzbekistan and other countries to conduct research on the basis of the center with grant funds. Two halls in the Center complex are called Samarkand and Bukhara.

The structure of the International Academic Advisory Committee of the OCIS includes 20 authoritative Islamic scholars and government officials from the UK, USA, France, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Malaysia, India, Pakistan and other countries. Since 2019, the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic S. Safoyev has been a permanent member of the Advisory Committee.

On the same day, S. Safoev held a meeting with the leadership, faculty and researchers of the University of Oxford.

During the conversation, British scientists were informed in detail about the political and economic reforms in Uzbekistan, the upcoming parliamentary elections in the republic, the commitment of the country’s leadership to conduct them in accordance with the highest international standards and the practical steps being taken in this direction.

University experts praised the process of political and economic modernization of Uzbekistan, open and active foreign policy of the country.

Scientists at a British university announced their intention to organize a visit by a university delegation to Uzbekistan in the near future to establish direct contacts and identify specific areas of cooperation.

The delegation of Uzbekistan also visited the Bodlian Library, where priceless manuscripts are stored in the Chagatai (Old Uzbek) language, and got acquainted with the original copy of the work of Alisher Navoi - “Hamsa”. The library discussed and cataloged the creation of facsimile copies of manuscripts by scholars of Maverannahr.
