FAO supports rural households in remote areas of Karakalpakstan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The year 2026 began with positive news for rural residents living in remote areas of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. To support household farming, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) provided modern agricultural machinery.
This technical assistance aims to enhance the efficiency of agricultural operations, facilitate land preparation processes and increase household incomes.
In particular, five Two-wheel tractors were delivered to residents of the Yesim mahalla in the Qorao‘zak district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The equipment will enable more efficient use of household plots, accelerate planting activities and improve labour productivity.
The support was provided within the framework of the Food Systems Land Use and Restoration Impact Program in Uzbekistan (FOLUR–Uzbekistan), financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by FAO in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the National Committee on Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change.
Two-wheel tractors are effective tools for soil cultivation. They significantly simplify and speed up ploughing, cultivation, furrow formation and land preparation for planting, helping to reduce the physical workload of rural communities and increase agricultural production.
“By providing agricultural machinery, we aim to ensure a sustainable increase in rural incomes, expand opportunities for food self-sufficiency and strengthen the capacity to adapt to climate change,” said Aziz Nurbekov, National Coordinator of the FOLUR–Uzbekistan project.
It is worth noting that within the framework of the project, special attention is given in Karakalpakstan to preventing ecosystem degradation, promoting the efficient use of land and water resources, and advancing soil-protective and resource-efficient agricultural practices.
