FAO Boosts Agricultural Value Chain Development in Bukhara
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Jondor district of Bukhara region, a business training on “Creating Value Chains for Agricultural Producers” was held, organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The event was part of the project “Sustainable Management of Forests and Pastures in Arid Ecosystems of Uzbekistan,” implemented with financial support from the Global Environment Facility in partnership with national agencies.
The training employed the “Farmer Field School” (FFS) methodology, focusing on hands-on learning tailored to local producers’ needs. Particular emphasis was placed on developing value chains in dairy processing and beekeeping sectors.
Participants included representatives of regional forestry and agriculture authorities, as well as services supporting women, highlighting a comprehensive approach to rural development.
National project coordinator Nariman Nishanov noted that strengthening value chains is key to unlocking the potential of rural producers. He emphasized that practical training enables farmers and entrepreneurs to increase product value, access new markets, and establish sustainable income sources.
During the program, participants acquired practical business skills, including branding, market positioning, and value addition techniques. This contributes to the creation of competitive and resilient agri-food systems.
The next phase of the training program is planned in the city of Navoi, expanding the project’s geographic reach and enhancing knowledge exchange between regions.
FAO continues to support Uzbekistan in promoting sustainable natural resource management and advancing modern agricultural practices.
