Fabio Cannavaro Arrives in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Italian football coach Fabio Cannavaro has arrived in Tashkent with his coaching staff, the press service of the Uzbekistan Football Association reports.
Cannavaro’s arrival comes amid reports of his potential appointment as head coach of the national team. In early October, it became known that the 51-year-old specialist had given his preliminary consent to lead the squad.
According to media reports, Cannavaro’s annual contract, including the salaries of his assistants, could amount to around 4 million euros.
Fabio Cannavaro, 2006 World Cup champion and Ballon d’Or winner, previously managed Guangzhou Evergrande, Tianjin Quanjian, and the Chinese national team. His potential appointment is viewed as a key step in preparing the Uzbekistan national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 2026 World Cup will be held from 11 June to 19 July across stadiums in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and for the first time will feature 48 teams.
It is noteworthy that the Uzbekistan national team has qualified for the World Cup finals for the first time in its history.
