Experts Foreign Trade Ministry comments on reasons for change in exports of apricots

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Specialists of the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan provided information on the actual dynamics of fresh Uzbek apricot exports as of the three months of 2018, and also commented on the conclusions of East-fruit.com analysts regarding the reduction in exports of Uzbek fresh apricots in the last year.

“Three months of 2018 demonstrate a positive dynamics in the growth of exports of fruit and vegetable products, including in terms of export of apricots. From April to June 2018, Uzbekistan exported 29,760 tonnes of apricots, which is 9,786 tonnes higher than the same period in 2017,” Pulat Asraev, head of the Export Promotion Department of the Territory, said. Regarding the drop in the volume of apricot exports in 2017 compared with the indicators of 2016, experts of the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan noted that in 2017, an average of 20 days was observed, blossoming stone fruit, resulting in the loss of the advantage of "high prices for early production" in the main sales markets, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan said.

Thus, the volume of products intended for export were reduced, and a significant part of the grown fruits was sold on the domestic market among the population and processing enterprises that create finished products, including for export.

Another reason for the so-called "decline of Uzbek indicators" of apricot exports in 2017 was an increase in the supply of these fruits from Turkey to the largest market of the Russian Federation in connection with the lifting of economic sanctions.

In 2016, the export of apricot from Turkey to Russia was not carried out. All this, of course, affects the sharp decline in exports of fresh perishable goods and the regulation of volumes in favor of the domestic market and the production of processed export products.

At the same time, experts of the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan said that the volume of apricot exports in April-June 2018 the sum increased by 2.2 times compared to the same period in 2017.

Uzbekistan exported apricot to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, Latvia, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Japan in 2018.
