Exhibition “Heritage in Stitches” Showcasing Uzbek Textiles and Embroidery Opens in Samarkand
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The “Heritage in Stitches: A Journey Through the Embroidery and Sewing Traditions of Uzbekistan” exhibition has opened at the Expo Center Silk Road Samarkand.
The event is organized by the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan within the framework of the 43rd UNESCO General Conference.
The exhibition highlights the rich traditions of Uzbek textile art and decorative craftsmanship, presenting over 150 museum exhibits from the 19th and 20th centuries — including national costumes, headwear, jewelry, and fabric samples from museum collections in Nukus, Samarkand, Bukhara, and Tashkent.
A special section is dedicated to the art of weaving and embroidery, showcasing rare suzani pieces as well as traditional fabrics such as zandana-chi and vedari, known for their intricate patterns and symbolic motifs. The display concludes with a collection of gold and silver jewelry, reflecting the diverse artistic heritage of Uzbekistan’s regions.
The exhibition will be open to the public from 30 October to 13 November 2025.
