EU Delegation and Volunteers Conduct Cleanup at Tashkent Botanical Garden as Part of “Green Diplomacy Week”
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 18 November 2025, the Delegation of the European Union in Uzbekistan, with the support of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, organized a large-scale cleanup of the Tashkent Botanical Garden.
The event was held as part of the EU’s annual global environmental initiative, “Green Diplomacy Week.”
This initiative, conducted from September through the end of November, unites EU Delegations worldwide and their partner countries to promote the environmental agenda, raise awareness of global climate challenges, and address threats to biodiversity.
The campaign is implemented through public activities, including awareness campaigns, seminars, exhibitions, cleanup events, and discussions involving youth, schools, universities, non-governmental organizations, local communities, and businesses.
In Uzbekistan, the cleanup at the Tashkent Botanical Garden brought together representatives from EU member state embassies, civil society organizations, volunteers, and young people, including students and schoolchildren.
The main goal of the event was to support one of the capital’s largest green spaces, home to over 2,000 plant species, and to promote responsible environmental behavior among visitors and the wider public.
During the activity, it was emphasized that environmental protection begins with each individual and depends on the daily choices of city residents and visitors. Maintaining public spaces in cleanliness is a shared societal responsibility. While decisive actions by governments and institutions are important, the personal contribution of each individual also carries significant weight.
The joint efforts of the European Union and Uzbekistan through this initiative continue to strengthen cooperation in combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and supporting sustainable development.
The EU Delegation expressed gratitude to all participants and partners for their contribution to the event’s success and called on the public to maintain the cleanliness and care of urban recreational areas.
