EU Commissioners Jozef Síkela and Marta Kos Visit Uzbekistan to Advance Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 25 to 27 November, European Union Commissioners Jozef Síkela and Marta Kos are visiting Uzbekistan to promote the development of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor, a key initiative under the EU’s Global Gateway investment strategy linking Europe and Central Asia.
During their visit, the commissioners will participate in the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor Investors Forum and Connectivity Development on 27 November in Tashkent. Commissioner Síkela will also speak at the 3rd EU – Central Asia Economic Forum on 26 November. Both events are jointly organized by the Government of Uzbekistan and the EU, bringing together representatives from government bodies, international organizations, investors, and the private sector.
Commissioner Síkela stated: “Partnership between Central Asia and the EU is stronger than ever. These two high-level forums bring together public and private investors from both regions to turn commitments into tangible results: economic growth, job creation, improved access to services, and enhanced stability.”
Commissioner Kos emphasized the corridor’s strategic importance: “It is a bridge between continents, economies, and people. The Tashkent Investors Forum turns our connectivity agenda into concrete action through coordinated and priority investments, ensuring sustainable prosperity and stability.”
The forum’s agenda includes sessions on transport and logistics, regulatory harmonization, infrastructure investment, and corridor digitalization. Participants will review progress since the first EU – Central Asia Transport Connectivity Forum in Brussels in January 2024, as well as outcomes from the interregional ministerial meeting in Luxembourg on 20 October.
The EU – Central Asia Economic Forum aims to strengthen economic ties, promote sustainable development, and expand cooperation between the EU and Central Asian countries, with particular focus on investments, public-private partnerships, and sustainable supply chains, including critical raw materials.
During the visit, the commissioners are expected to sign a series of bilateral and regional agreements and meet with senior government officials.
