EU appoints its Special Envoy to Central Asia
Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission, had adopted a corresponding decision on 9 April 2014.
“To ensure the continued engagement with the countries of Central Asia I have decided to appoint Janos Herman as Special Envoy to the region. Janos is an experienced diplomat and I am looking forward to working with him in his new role,” said Catherine Ashton.
Janos Herman is a former Head of EU Delegation to Norway as well as former Hungarian State Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador to NATO. Initially, the Special Envoy is appointed for a six-month period, starting from April 2014.
At this post, Herman will replace Patricia Flor, who recently resigned.
