ESCAP Presents Initiative for Trans-Asian Railway Network

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A working meeting was held at JSC “Uzbekiston Temir Yullari” with representatives of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

The parties discussed reforms in Uzbekistan’s railway sector carried out in 2023, as well as strategic projects including “Trans-Afghan” and the “China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan” route.

ESCAP representatives presented the organization’s initiative to establish a trans-Asian railway network.

During the meeting, the benefits of shifting freight transportation to rail were highlighted, including reduced road congestion and positive environmental impact. The discussion also covered the potential active participation of JSC “Uzbekiston Temir Yullari” in the implementation of ESCAP projects and agreements.
