Ember: Solar and Wind Energy to Grow by 793 GW in 2025

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The analytical center Ember has released its forecast for global renewable energy development in 2025, predicting record additions in both solar and wind power capacities.

According to Ember, global renewable energy capacity will increase by 793 GW in 2025, which is 11% higher than in 2024 (717 GW). However, growth rates are slowing: in 2023, the increase was 22%, and in 2022 it reached 66%. Experts note that current capacity levels are already so high that sustaining previous rapid growth rates would have been unrealistic.

Solar energy capacity is expected to rise by 9%, with 626 GW (DC) expected to be added worldwide in 2025. Wind energy, in contrast, is projected to grow faster, by 21%, corresponding to an increase of 137 GW.

Ember’s calculations indicate that China will account for 66% of the global increase in solar energy capacity and 69% in wind energy in 2025. By comparison, China’s share in 2022 was less than 50%.

Ember experts believe that the growth rates achieved in 2023–2025 could enable the tripling of global renewable energy capacity, a target first formulated at COP28. To achieve this goal, renewable energy capacity must grow by 12% annually between 2026 and 2030.
