Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 25 October 2019, a seminar of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan was held, which discussed the preparations for the parliamentary elections in the republic scheduled for 22 December. The seminar was held for the first time with a video connection of a diplomatic institution of Uzbekistan abroad.
The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the United States and Canada, Javlon Vahabov, informed of the organization of two polling stations in the United States - No. 12 at the Embassy in Washington and No. 33 - to the Consulate General in New York. The composition of both precinct election commissions has been formed.
Diplomatic institutions have begun work on the formation of a list of voters among citizens of Uzbekistan temporarily or permanently residing in the United States and Canada. According to the diplomatic mission, at present, the total number of Uzbek citizens who have registered with the consulate is 3,700, including 740 at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Washington and 2,960 at the Consulate General in New York.
To ensure active participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections of compatriots living away from polling stations, Uzbekistan’s overseas agencies in the United States conduct a wide range of events in conjunction with diaspora organizations, including the Turkestan-American Association (New York), the Congress of Bukhara Jews of the United States and Canada (New York), the Commonwealth of Uzbek Uzbeks in Greater Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), the organization "Vatandosh" (Pennsylvania), the Uzbek-American Association in Chicago (IL) linois), the Uzbek Society in Atlanta (Georgia), the Uzbekistan Youth Association in the Americas (Washington), and other Uzbek associations.
In order to ensure the participation of prominent international observers from the United States at the forthcoming vote, the Embassy, together with the leadership of the Senate of Uzbekistan in Washington, held a series of briefings with the participation of American congressmen, political figures and experts from non-governmental organizations, in which the partners were informed about the preparations for the elections, innovations in the election legislation of Uzbekistan and measures taken to ensure transparency of the upcoming elections.
During the event, the leadership of the CEC of Uzbekistan made additional recommendations on the organizational issues of holding parliamentary elections at polling stations at foreign diplomatic missions.
