Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 7 March 2020, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Tehran confirmed the spread of information on the Internet that over 700 truck drivers, including 11 citizens of Uzbekistan, remained at the border checkpoints "Lutfabad" and "Sarakhs" as the Turkmen-Iranian border was closed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
From 23 February, the Consular Section of the Embassy has been in constant contact with compatriots who refused to return to their homeland, having deposited their vehicles at customs posts.
The embassies of Uzbekistan in Tehran and Ashgabat keep the situation under control and are in constant dialogue with the relevant authorities of Iran and Turkmenistan to resolve this issue.
