Elmira Basithanova holds talks with Russian top legislator

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan and chairperson of the Uzbekistan Women’s Committee Elmira Basithanova held a meeting with the chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matvienko.

During the meeting, the Russian official underlined growing role of women in forming state social politics.

Matvienko said that Russia is a member of main international agreements on women rights, including Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

She proposed to create Eurasian Women’s Forum, which could play a key role in integration process in the Eurasian space. She said that the forum could help to exchange experience in promotion of equality, strengthen family institute, preserve and develop cultures of people of Eurasia.

Valentina Matvienko recalled that the Russian President Vladimir Putin announced 2014 as the Year of Culture in Russia. She called use this opportunity to promote cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia in humanitarian sphere.

In this connection, the sides expressed mutual readiness to expand cooperation in culture, scientific and technical, education, healthcare, sport and tourism spheres. The Russian side also underlined importance of keeping and developing Russian-language space in Uzbekistan to strengthen bilateral relations.

Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan supported the proposals of the Russian top legislator to exchange experience in family policy, protection of maternity and childhood, participation of women in political and public life of the government.

Elmira Basithanova said that it is necessary to pay attention of youth in spirit of preserving family traditions in the modern world.
