Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 31 October 2019, a regular meeting of the Permanent Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe was held, at which the annual report of the Chairman of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Georgy Tsereteli, was heard.

The Permanent Representative of our country to the OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna, speaking at the event, Ambassador Sherzod Asadov thanked Georgy Tsereteli for the support he provided in strengthening cooperation between the Parliamentary Assembly and the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.

The ambassador informed the members of the Permanent Council about the preparations in Uzbekistan for the parliamentary elections scheduled for 22 December. It was emphasized that the upcoming parliamentary elections will be fundamentally different from the previous ones and held on the basis of a conceptually new electoral law - the Electoral Code of Uzbekistan, which was approved on 26 June, developed jointly with the OSCE Office for Democratic Freedoms and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the Venice Commission. .

It was noted that the OSCE / ODIHR full-fledged mission consisting of 30 long-term and 250 short-term experts will monitor the elections to the parliament of Uzbekistan to monitor the election process throughout the country. Participation of observers from the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE, CIS, SCO and other international structures is also expected.

In turn, the Chairman of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Georgy Tsereteli, emphasized that the organization he is currently leading is studying and determining the composition of the delegation of parliamentarians of the OSCE participating States to be sent to Uzbekistan as observers for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
