Edgars Bondars appointed as Latvian envoy to Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Uzbekistan Edgars Bondars on 3 February 2014.

The envoy handed over copies of credentials, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said.

During the meeting, the sides discussed current state and perspectives of further developing bilateral cooperation, as well as some international and regional issues.

The sides also considered implementation of agreements, reached within the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to Latvia in October 2013.

The officials also discussed schedule of upcoming inter-governmental contacts in political, trade-economic and other spheres.

Edgars Bondars replaced Igors Apokins at the post of the Latvian Ambassador to Uzbekistan, who completed his mission in Uzbekistan in the end of December 2013.

Edgars Bondars began working for the foreign service at the Division of Consular and Legal Affairs in 1994. During his diplomatic career, Mr Bondars has been posted to the Embassies of Latvia in the Czech Republic and the United States and has been Head of the Consular Section in the Embassy of Latvia in Russia.

He has also worked as Head of the International Organisations Division at the Foreign Ministry. Until now, Edgars Bondars held the position of Director of the First Bilateral Department.
